In the early twentieth century, antiquities were considered vital to the collections in an art museum. Alma Spreckels was well aware of that, and the Legion of Honor’s display of ancient art grew with gifts from her friends and family. This was the beginning of what was to become the Fine Arts Museums’ substantial collection from the ancient world.

This program is part of the Legion Lecture Series: A Closer Look.

The Legion is turning 100 on 11/11. This lecture is part of the centenary celebration of the museum.

About Programs at the Ancient Art Council
