The opinion that maritime activities have played a secondary role in Israel has substantially changed. Recent underwater rescue surveys and excavations undertaken in Akko, Dor, Caesarea, Ashqelon, and Atlit, have revealed impressive finds such as shipwrecks, cargos, treasures, submerged prehistoric villags, harbors, and anchorages. These ongoing underwater archaeological activities conducted by the Israel Antiquities Authority present a clearer picture of the Mediterranean sites of Israel.
Reception to follow lecture.
