This fascinating lecture will focus on ancient glass production from large-scale raw-glass industries to the artisan’s workshop in the Holy Land. The talk will also examine the design and use of furnaces, various vessels, oil lamps, and jewelry, especially the Byzantine gold and opaque glass panel. This masterpiece from Caesarea Maritima, dating to AD 500–700, was the centerpiece in the exhibition at the Legion of Honor, Highlights from the Israel Antiquities Authority: The Dead Sea Scrolls and 5,000 Years of Treasures.

Programs are varied and include such activities as lectures by noted archaeologists, museum curators, and ancient art historians; exclusive tours of the Museum’s permanent collection and special exhibitions; fund-raising events; and travel programs to ancient sites and other museums. Members also receive invitations from related organizations to attend lectures ad exhibition openings. Your annual membership dues and contributions will assist in furthering the Ancient Art collection at the Fine Arts Museums.
