Howard Carter had worked in the field for over twenty years when in 1922 he discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb—and he became a household name. This lecture traces Carter’s career before and after his great success. It also examines the methods he developed for searching the Valley of the Kings for new discoveries, the meticulous work he performed in recording this amazing find, and the political as well as historical implications of the discovery of the most important, intact Egyptian royal tomb.

Cosponsored by the Docent Council.
