Season Sarcophagus
Roman, 260–280 A.D.
This sarcophagus, or coffin, contains imagery, carved in high relief, symbolic of both the agricultural seasons and Bacchic ritual. On coffins and other monuments of the late Roman period, youths symbolizing the seasons were popular features.
