Nimrud Ivory Plaque with Falcon-Headed Figure Wearing Egyptian Double Crown

Syro-Phoenician, Nimrud, 8th–7th century B.C.

The Syro-Phoenician artists who carved these delicate ivories, as represented by this plaque with Egyptian blue inlay, borrowed heavily from Egyptian art.  The highly prized luxury pieces were applied as decorative inlays on furniture.
