edited by Catharine H. Roehrig, Renée Dreyfus, and Cathleen A. Keller
Publication Date: 2005

Hatshepsut ruled as regent for, then co-ruler with, her nephew Thutmose III during Egypt's 18th Dynasty. During her relatively peaceful New Kingdom reign (ca. 1473-1458 B.C.), the economic prosperity was reflected in the art: the innovations in sculpture, decorative arts, and such architectural marvel as her mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahri. Twenty years after her death, Thutmose III launched a damnatio memoriae against the greatest female pharaoh Egypt had ever known.
